Muscle Stimulation in Baton Rouge
Muscle stimulation is good for a broad range of functions, usually for recent acute injuries. Trauma victims, personal injury, the guy who ran up and down his ladder too many times over the weekend, or hurt his back digging a hole in the backyard—they’re all candidates for muscle stimulation therapy.
How Does It Work?
Muscle stimulation is a commonly used procedure designed to help the muscles calm down, loosen up a bit, stimulate blood flow and lymphatic circulation. When Dr. Wolverton uses the therapy, he gets less resistance when adjusting. Depending on a patient’s symptoms and cause, muscle stimulation often calms things down, so they feel better, even before the adjustment.
Chiropractic and muscle stimulation work together to provide a more effective outcome. Our doctor will work with you to determine the best treatment process and combination of treatment modalities.

- Aids in enhancing blood flow and circulation
- Optimizes muscle repair and recovery
- Increases overall well-being
An Important Distinction
A lot of people refer to muscle stimulation as TENS. While it’s similar and feels similar while working, TENS units only work on the sensory portion of the nerve. Muscle stimulation uses a different wavelength to affect the motor portion of the nerve.
We don’t have a TENS machine in the office, because muscle stimulation is more effective. We’re here to get something done, not just treat a symptom, or make it feel better for a while. If the patient wants to use a TENS unit at home, that’s fine, but it’s not part of our protocols.
